Congratulations to Nicole LaBella of Steele Canyon High School

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is excited to announce that Nicole LaBella of Steele Canyon High School was named the Best Local Theatre Teacher at the Broadway San Diego Awards. The awards ceremony was held May 26 at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego.

The Best Local Theatre Teacher Awards contest ran for a couple of weeks in May on sdccu.com. Students, parents, family members and friends were asked to nominate and vote for a deserving drama/theatre teacher who made a positive difference in their life, the life of a child or in the community. As part of the award, SDCCU will send LaBella to New York City to attend the 2019 Jimmy Awards, also known as the National High School Musical Theatre Awards®.

The Best Local Theatre Teacher Award is part of the 2019 Broadway San Diego Awards, sponsored by SDCCU and held in collaboration with Broadway San Diego. Candidates for Best Musical, Best Actor and Best Actress, were selected from onsite adjudications of high school musicals at their home venues during the 2018/2019 school year. Congratulations to Mary Rose Vadeboncoeur of Steele Canyon High School for winning Best Actress, Rocco Polanco of La Costa Canyon High School for winning Best Actor and San Dieguito High School Academy for winning Best Musical for “Mamma Mia.” Vadeboncoeur and Polanco were narrowed down from 20 leading female and male nominees. The winning Best Actor and Best Actress performers and teachers will be flown to New York for a week of intensive training before they compete in the national finals, the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, on a Broadway stage for $10,000 toward a college scholarship on Monday, June 24, 2019.
