BHFCU & Salesforce partner to volunteer 120 hours at Habitat for Humanity

RAPID CITY, SD (May 22, 2023) — Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) believes it is imperative to support the communities they serve. That’s why they jumped at the chance to volunteer in partnership with Salesforce at Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity earlier this month.

Salesforce nominated the credit union to be their volunteer partner for Spring 2023. On May 11, a group of 20 BHFCU and Salesforce team members spent the day volunteering at the site of three Habitat for Humanity home builds in Sturgis, South Dakota.

“Each year, as a part of our Community Action Team program, we gather a small group of staff to volunteer at the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity,” explained Leslie Millard, BHFCU Marketing Communications Specialist. “Salesforce’s nomination provided a catalyst to expand our volunteerism with the organization this year.”

The group worked alongside one future homeowner prepping the build site for two soon-to-beconstructed homes and working on another nearby house already under construction. On a rainy day, the group spent six hours clearing trees, disassembling a shed, spreading gravel, moving dirt, and painting interior walls. Altogether, the group volunteered 120 hours of their time.

“As a part of our 1-1-1 Model, we donate 1% of our profits, 1% of our software, and 1% of our employees’ time back into philanthropic initiatives,” Salesforce Regional Vice President Jay Pettigrew said. “It’s part of our mission to expand stakeholder value by working in the communities our customers and employees call home.”

BHFCU has plans to return to the Habitat for Humanity Sturgis build site later this summer as a part of their staff-led giving program.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
