BHFCU staff-led giving program contributes nearly $8,500 worth in December

RAPID CITY, SD (January 25, 2024) — Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) empowers its employees to better the communities they serve. That’s why they have supported the staff-led Community Action Team (CAT) program for over 30 years. As a result, in December, BHFCU staff contributed $8,490 to charitable organizations.

In December, the CAT program focused on organizations that help during the holidays by raising money to support meals for seniors and lending a hand with gifting programs in the Black Hills and Sioux Falls. Between employee and member contributions, they purchased 181 Christmas gifts, volunteered 18 hours, and donated $5,950.

The effort benefited Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota, Sioux Falls Cares, and the Salvation Army of the Black Hills.

“With over 2,000 children requesting gifts from the Salvation Army Angel Tree Toy Drive this year, we made it our goal to help as many kids as possible,” said Amber Usera-Morris, BHFCU Personal Financial Officer. “I’m so proud of how our staff stepped up and fulfilled seven trees worth of gifts for over 200 kids.”

CAT co-chairs organized several ways for staff and the community to get involved. They placed and filled seven Angel Trees worth of gift requests, making Christmas merrier for 219 kids. They partnered in Sioux Falls to deliver Christmas gifts to five families in need. And they filled countless envelopes with cash as a part of Meals on Wheels’ Gingerbread Man fundraiser.

Please join BHFCU in celebrating the charitable contributions of its staff. They live the credit union’s mission to improve lives every day.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
