BHFCU staff raise over $10,000 for South Dakota animal rescues

RAPID CITY, SD (May 19, 2023) — Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) believes it is imperative to support the passions of its staff. That’s why they promote the staff-led Community Action Team (CAT) program. During April, BHFCU staff gave a mix of monetary donations and supplies totaling over $10,000 in value to 11 animal rescues across South Dakota.

The annual Raising for Rescues Pet Supply Drive focuses on supporting organizations helping animals from Spearfish to Sioux Falls. A group of passionate, rescue animal owning and loving co-chairs led the charge collecting monetary donations and essentials requested by rescues, incentivized by several donated prize packages. At the end of the month, the effort raised $5,500 in monetary donations and collected 991 items valued at just under $4,800. That’s a total of $10,300 raised in support of animals.

“As an owner of multiple rescue animals, some with disabilities, I was overwhelmed by the support from our coworkers and community,” said Tammy Brabazon, BHFCU Personal Financial Officer and project co-chair. “South Dakota has many animal rescues doing the hard work, day in and day out, to save as many animals as possible. We are thrilled to support them.”

BHFCU collected supplies at all locations. Plus, this year, they expanded the drive’s external reach by partnering with All Creatures Veterinary Hospital, All Pro Pet Spa, Black Hills Bark Avenue, Barks & Bubbles, Healthy Paws, and Woofers as additional drop-off points in the Black Hills.

The effort raised money and collected supplies for the Humane Society of the Black Hills, PAWS Animal Rescue, Western Hills Humane Society, Sturgis Animal Shelter, Battle Mountain Humane Society, Wakpa Waste Animal Shelter, A Place for Meow, Almost Home Canine Rescue, STARS Rescue, the Oglala Pet Project, and Happy Tails Haven.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
