Black Hills Federal Credit Union celebrates 100,000 members served

RAPID CITY, SD (July 18, 2023) — Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) recently hit a major membership milestone, surpassing 100,000 members served by the regional credit union.

From humble beginnings with only a few members banking out of a Rapid City living room, BHFCU has steadily grown over 82 years. Since its founding in 1941, the credit union has expanded to 18 locations, with two more set to open later this year.

“The recent growth has allowed us to explore new ways to provide better service to all our members,” explained Jerry Schmidt, Chief Executive Officer. “Even with the efficiencies technology can provide, having more members gives us the opportunity to expand our workforce, bolstering our community’s economy.”

Schmidt was also quick to acknowledge the role the credit union’s loyal, long-time members played in reaching this milestone. The early adopters of the credit union movement’s cooperative vision have supported BHFCU’s innovation and expansion.

“Just as we exist for our members, we also exist because of them,” Schmidt said. “We are forever grateful for the trust and loyalty of BHFCU’s members.”
