FAYETTEVILLE, NC (May 15, 2019) — John Szoka, Chairman of the Board of Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Fayetteville, North Carolina, was chosen as National Volunteer of the Year by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU). Szoka and other winners in NAFCU’s 2019 Annual Awards Competition will be honored June 18-21, 2019, during NAFCU’s 52nd Annual Conference and Solutions Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana. Winners are also featured in the July/August edition of The NAFCU Journal magazine.

This prestigious award honors volunteers for excellence and achievement in the credit union industry. The award is selected based on four categories: Leadership; Dedication to the Best Interest of the Credit Union Member; Commitment to the Development of the Professionalism, Expertise, and Service of the Credit Union Staff and Management; and Participation in the Credit Union Community and Values of the Community.

This year’s NAFCU Annual Awards Competition honored eight winners in total who were selected by a committee of credit union leaders. Awards include CEO of the Year, Credit Union of the Year, Professional of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year. Nominees are judged in two categories: credit unions with assets of more than $250 million and those with assets of $250 million or less. John Szoka was winner for the latter.

Mr. Szoka has served on Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors since 2014 and has served as Chairman since 2016.

“John Szoka’s dedicated efforts are reflected in the continued success of Bragg Mutual, demonstrating thoughtful leadership skills, as well as developing new ideas that are beneficial to our organization’s growth,” said Steve Foley, President, and CEO of Bragg Mutual. “This award reflects his exemplary services on behalf of our members. John’s leadership catapulted us into positive change, allowing us to grow into a solid and strong credit union positioned for even more growth in the upcoming decade.”

Szoka remarked, “I am extremely honored to have been selected for this award. However, it’s not just one individual that deserves recognition; it’s the entire team. I am very thankful to other members of our board and the employees of the Credit Union for their willingness to work hard toward a common goal and make Bragg Mutual the credit union of choice in Eastern North Carolina.”
