Bridgewater Credit Union hosts Shred-It Day fundraiser

The community event supported the Fairhaven High School class of 2025.

FAIRHAVEN, MASS. (October 18, 2023) — On Saturday, Oct. 7, Bridgewater Credit Union, a division of Merrimack Valley Credit Union, hosted a Shred-It day at the credit union’s Fairhaven Branch to support the Fairhaven High School (FHS) class of 2025.

During the event, members of the credit union and community alike brought old, unwanted documents to be shredded. Proper disposal of documents is imperative to protecting private personal information from identity thieves. Members were encouraged to shred items with a signature, account number, social security number or medical or legal information that they no longer need to retain.

Volunteer team members from Bridgewater Credit Union, including Branch Manager Jon Bewsher, joined several members of Fairhaven High School’s junior class to serve coffee and treats and greet dozens of community members and local businesses as they dropped off their documents. The event raised over $1,000 for Fairhaven High School juniors and will cover the cost of buses for the junior prom this spring, according to Tracey Francis, Fairhaven High School’s parent class advisor.

“Myself, as well as the Class of 2025, are extremely thankful to Bridgewater Credit Union and the numerous community members that came out to support us on our quest to cut the cost of the prom and prom busses down,” Francis said. “Our student volunteers who joined us today were great examples of everything that the FHS Class of 2025 is made of. They were smiling and courteous and I could not be prouder to be the advisor to this class.”
