Cameron Smith joins NWCUA as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Resources

Smith will oversee Strategic Link, the Association’s subsidiary, which connects credit unions with business solutions

Cameron Smith, former Director of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, joins the Northwest Credit Union Association Nov. 9 as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Resources. In that role, Smith will lead Strategic Link, which connects credit unions with the industry’s most relevant business solutions.

Smith currently serves as Chief of Staff for Oregon Secretary of State Bev Clarno. His resume includes an impressive background in key strategic leadership positions. As the former Director of the DCBS, he advocated for consumers and businesses across such areas as insurance, investments, banking, and credit. He also oversaw mortgage services as head of the state’s veterans’ affairs division, and on his watch, the loan portfolio grew significantly.

“Cameron’s knowledge of the credit union industry and our competitive position in the financial services marketplace will serve our member credit unions and business partners exceedingly well,” said Troy Stang, President and CEO, NWCUA. “With his leadership skills and future-focused vision, he will build on Strategic Link’s legacy and will provide Northwest credit unions with key opportunities and partners in emerging FinTech and next-generation services.”

Smith joins NWCUA and Strategic Link at a pivotal time. Coming out of the pandemic, credit unions are reassessing how they provide services and what consumers want from their financial institution. Strategic Link, under Smith’s leadership, will be the partner that positions credit unions to thrive in this new environment.

“I value the cooperative principles of member-driven credit unions,” Smith said. “I look forward to working with the team at NWCUA to grow strategic partnerships of financial impact and value for credit unions, and for the consumers they serve across the Northwest.”
