Canvas Credit Union’s government shutdown assistance loan now 0% APR

In an effort to better support Colorado residents impacted by the shutdown, Canvas reduces their Helping Hand Loan to 0% interest

DENVER, CO (January 24, 2019) — As the Government Shutdown enters into its 33rd day, a local credit union is stepping-up to better support the members of their Colorado community who have been negatively impacted.

Last week, Canvas created their new Helping Hand Loan, a special signature loan designed to assist members who are caught in difficult situations such as the shutdown. As the shutdown continues and the negative impact grows for Colorado government employees, Canvas has altered their Helping Hand Loan to offer support at 0% APR.

“We care very deeply about our members, and this is an opportunity where we can step-up and really show it,” said Tansley Stearns, Chief People & Strategy Officer, “Our goal of helping our members afford life means jumping in and providing a helping hand during times of need. We are committed to our family.”

“We created the original Helping Hand Loan to better assist our members and our Colorado community. We realized that we can do more,” said Tansley Stearns, Chief People & Strategy Officer at Canvas, “Our goal is to offer as much assistance to our Canvas family as possible, and reducing the interest rate of our Helping Hand Loan to zero is a good start.”

In addition to the Helping Hand Loan, Canvas is providing deferment options for members with existing loans who are impacted by the shutdown. All Canvas branches, as well as their Communication Center, are offering this support to government employees in need of assistance.

“Our hope is that this will provide real relief and support to the people of Colorado,” said Stearns, “We are here for you.”
