Cardinal Credit Union food drive with Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt results in 500+ items donated to W-E Care Food Pantry

MENTOR, OH (December 14, 2023) — With help from Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt, Cardinal Credit Union hosted a community food drive from November 27 through December 9 at their seven retail branches. As a result of their efforts, more than 500 non-perishable food items were donated to the W-E Care Food Pantry, located within the Northern Career Institute – Eastlake Campus. The food pantry benefits families within the school district that suffer from food insecurity.

In a ceremony at Eastlake High School on Tuesday, December 12, Cardinal Credit Union CEO Christine Blake shared the results of the community food drive with Dr. Patrick Ward, Superintendent of Willoughby-Eastlake Schools, who also spoke at the event along with Kareem Hunt. More than 100 guests from the community were in attendance to celebrate this accomplishment.

“Cardinal Credit Union is thrilled to have hosted such a successful food drive for the W-E Food Pantry,” said Christine Blake, CEO, Cardinal Credit Union. “We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our employees, our members and the greater northeastern Ohio community. We are proud to continue to make a difference in the lives of in-need members of our community especially at this very special time of the year.”

As part of the push for food donations, Cardinal awarded 25 donors a meet and greet with Kareem Hunt at Eastlake High School prior to yesterday’s ceremony. To qualify, donors either provided five non-perishable food items or $10 to receive one entry into a raffle to meet Hunt.
