Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union empowers four local families with a life-changing journey to homeownership in Spartanburg, SC

SPARTANBURG, SC (July 17, 2023) — Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union (CFFCU) is constructing four homes in Spartanburg, SC, designed exclusively for families of modest means. The “Moving Families Forward” program aims to shatter housing barriers and provide a transformative opportunity for low-income families to finally call a place home.

CFFCU is providing mortgage financing at the construction cost with a 0% interest rate over a period of 30 years for the four selected families. This initiative is set to ignite a beacon of hope for families in the Northside Spartanburg, SC.

Moving Families Forward is a testament to CFFCU’s commitment to addressing the unfortunate lack of homeownership options available to some families. Leveraging a powerful coalition of like-minded organizations including The Cleveland Academy of Leadership, ReGenesis Health Care, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, The Northside Development Group, and James White Enterprises, CFFCU is able to provide comprehensive support to these deserving families.

Terri Hendrix, Vice President of Engagement at CFFCU, expressed her passion for the project, stating, “Our ultimate goal is to empower these families who have long believed that homeownership was out of their reach. Through our holistic approach, we aim to ensure they are not only financially ready but also physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared to embark on this life-changing journey.”

The initial beneficiaries of the Moving Families Forward Program are four local families, all of whom have children enrolled at The Cleveland Academy of Leadership. Cleveland Academy has previously joined forces with CFFCU through a student savings program, instilling the importance of financial literacy and cultivating a habit of saving.
