Celebrate 75 years of International Credit Union Day® with Raiz Federal Credit Union

EL PASO, TX (October 19, 2023) — On October 19, 2023, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. This year marks the 75th anniversary. In honor of this special day, Raiz invites its members and the community to join the celebration by visiting their Facebook (@Raizfcu) or Instagram (@raiz.us) page and entering a raffle to receive an exclusive “Juntos Avanzamos” tote bag designed by local artist Christin Apodaca.

Juntos Avanzamos, Spanish for “together we advance”, is a prestigious designation given to credit unions by Inclusiv, a community development financial institution dedicated to closing the gaps and removing barriers to financial opportunity. The designation symbolizes Raiz’s dedication to providing financial empowerment for its Hispanic and immigrant members and foraging new paths through the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything they do. The tote bag shares the design of the commemorative mural that Raiz commissioned to celebrate its designation and symbolize Raiz’s belief in working hand in hand to advance, create positive change, and positive impact for those served.

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 393 million members in 118 countries worldwide. More than 87,000 credit unions exist globally, providing a plethora of financial services for their members, recognized as a force for positive economic and social change. Riaz is proud to serve over 70,000 members and provide them with a full range of high-quality financial services with competitive rates and low-costs, both online and in-person at each of their nine locations located throughout El Paso. Since its founding in 1936 by seven educators, Raiz has remained true to its roots by sharing a passion for knowledge and the pursuit of growth to help members reach their financial goals.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union and financial cooperative difference.

There are still 1.4 billion people across the globe who are unbanked. Credit unions truly have the perfect business model to serve underserved populations and that is a message we hope our entire global movement will celebrate and promote on Thursday, October 19.

International Credit Union Day is recognized by the World Council of Credit Unions, the global trade association and development platform for credit unions and other financial cooperatives, as well as numerous national credit union trade associations and federations around the world.

On Oct. 19, credit unions from around the world will join forces to celebrate the day with membership drives, contests and fundraisers to help their local communities. Credit unions will share their activities with the global community on social media using #ICUDay. For more information about Raiz and its Juntos Avanzamos designation, please visit www.raiz.us.
