CFCU President and CEO Tansley Stearns elected to Michigan Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors

Stearns is one of seven industry leaders who will guide the foundation in supporting credit unions statewide.

CFCU, a non-profit financial institution headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., today announced its president and CEO, Tansley Stearns, has been elected to the Michigan Credit Union Foundation’s (MCUF) board of directors. As a member of the board, Stearns will guide the foundation in offering support to Michigan credit unions and their members through enrichment grants, financial education, counseling and leadership development.

Credit unions create meaningful impact through collaboration. At CFCU, we are committed to helping Michiganders achieve their impossible dreams and as a unified Michigan credit union community the possibilities to change human lives are endless,” said Stearns. “I’m honored to serve on the foundation’s board and excited to dream boldly about what’s next at an industry leadership level.”

In 2022, Stearns joined CFCU as president and CEO, bringing decades of leadership with credit unions nationally to her role. Since coming aboard, Stearns has implemented bold and transformational programming that fosters a sense of financial belonging among its members, including an obstacle-free Path to Homeownership program and debit card art collaborations with local artists. Last month, Stearns led the organization in launching an updated brand identity that reflects the organization’s role as protector of its members and its commitment to the community it serves.

For more than 70 years, CFCU has been committed to the communities it serves through 14 branch locations in southeast and northern Michigan. In May, it opened its one-of-a-kind digital arts, education, and engagement-focused Livonia branch, ‘The Playground’.

In addition to leading CFCU, Stearns also serves as a regular editorialist in national industry trade publications, such as CUInsight and Credit Union Times. Prior to her role at CFCU, Stearns held leadership roles at Canvas Credit Union (Colorado), BestSource Credit Union (Michigan), Connex Credit Union (Connecticut) and Bethpage Federal Credit Union (New York).

“Tansley is experienced, involved and interested in areas that mirror the work and the mission of the Foundation and we are thrilled to have her participation and vision,” said MCUF Executive Director Beth Troost. “Tansley joins an active board leadership focused on helping credit unions increase the financial wellbeing of Michigan families, businesses and communities.”

MCUF was formed by the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates (MCUL), a nearly century-old organization representing Michigan’s credit unions and their members through advocacy, cooperative initiatives and high-quality solutions. The foundation aims to improve the financial well-being of Michigan families and communities through credit union initiatives.
