Champion Credit Union participates in 3rd annual CU Lunch Local

CANTON, NC (October 2, 2014) -- Be it lunch at a local deli or a shopping at a neighborhood store, credit unions are being called on to show their support of small businesses with actual cash. Champion Credit Union is just one of many credit unions across the United States putting money back into their local economy by participating in CU Lunch Local.

The CU Lunch Local initiative, a nationwide cash mob, is being held on Tuesday, October 14th, 2014 just in time for International Credit Union Week. Cash mob events are similar to flash mob events, but with one key difference. Instead of dancing in the street, people who participate in cash mob events spend money. They spend this money at local businesses with the goal of supporting them and encouraging others to buy local. On, Tuesday October 14th, credit unions throughout North Carolina and several other supporting states will participate.

The basic goal of CU Lunch Local (#culunchlocal), founded by Michigan Business Connection in 2012, is to encourage support for locally-owned businesses as well as drive positive awareness of the credit union industry’s capability and willingness to support local businesses.

“Champion Credit Union has been and always will be a supporter of our local communities,” says Mike Clayton, President of Champion Credit Union. “CU Lunch Local is a great way for us to show that support, as well as encourage our members and others from the community to participate as well.”

Champion Credit Union is encouraging everyone to participate by packing local restaurants during lunch on Tuesday, October 14th, 2014. If you bring in your receipt from lunch to one of their office locations, you can enter to win a gift certificate from a local restaurant. People are also encouraged to post their pictures to social media sites [#championcu #culunchlocal]. “Recommending a business to someone else is one of the best ways you can help,” says Clayton.
