Two credit unions in San Antonio, Texas, are leading the way in raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network – and CO-OP Financial Services is looking for credit unions and associations ready to add to their total.
“The CO-OP Miracle Match program is a natural extension of the people-helping-people model of the credit union movement,” said Stan Hollen, President/CEO of CO-OP Financial Services, and a member of the Children’s Miracle Network’s Board of Governors. “We are looking forward to working with industry partners to do even more in 2010 to help children.”
Generations FCU raised $30,000 and received $10,000 through CO-OP Miracle Match with its “Annual Credit Unions for Kids Bowl-a-Thon,” held Nov. 18, 2009 (in the 2010 program year). Greater Texas FCU raised $20,000 and added $10,000 with CO-OP Miracle Match funds through its Dec. 4, 2009 “World’s Finest Chocolate Candy Sales Event.” The funds from both events are designated for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, located in San Antonio.
The two fundraisers in San Antonio were sizeable events. During the 2009 program year, by comparison, the top fundraising credit union produced $45,000 in funds, added to which was $10,000 in miracle match funds.
CO-OP Miracle Match is managed by CO-OP Financial Services on behalf of its 3,000 member credit unions. The program awards $1 million in matching funds annually for Credit Unions for Kids events, proceeds of which go to local children’s hospitals in the Children’s Miracle Network. The credit union industry is currently the third largest contributor to Children’s Miracle Network.
