Coastal Credit Union Foundation announces second round of grants for COVID-19 relief

RALEIGH, NC (April 23, 2020) — The Coastal Credit Union Foundation has announced that it will provide a second round of funding for its community relief package, in the form of $140,000 in unrestricted grants to several area nonprofits. These grants will be used to provide community assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Including previously-announced grants, the foundation’s COVID-19 response to date totals $692,000.

The latest package includes a $50,000 grant to the Kramden Institute to help further their work to provide computers to public school and community college students across the Triangle.  As students have shifted to remote learning, families without reliable computer and internet access run the risk of falling behind. Coastal Credit Union Foundation’s grant will help 500 families bridge that gap.

“As the COVID-19 crisis has continued to unfold, we’ve continued to look for ways to help,” said Chuck Purvis, Coastal’s President and CEO. “Thankfully, there are plenty of great nonprofits in our community that were already prepared to assist those in need. I’m proud of our team here for being able to work with community leaders and identify opportunities and then quickly get grant money into the hands of people who are making a tremendous impact right now.” Coastal’s Foundation has now provided grants to organization that reach all of the 16 counties that Coastal Credit Union serves. In addition to Kramden, the latest funding is also supporting the following local nonprofits:

  • Area Congregations in Ministry
  • Boys and Girls Club of Central Carolina
  • Boys and Girls Club of North Central NC
  • Boys and Girls Club of the Tar River Region
  • Christian Help Center
  • Green Chair Project
  • Healing Transitions
  • The Help Center
  • Hispanic Liaison
  • Lighthouse Home
  • Marian Cheek Jackson Center
  • Overflowing Hands
  • The REACH Center
  • SAFE of Harnett County
  • Safe Space
  • Smithfield Rescue Mission
  • Spread Seeds with Us

The Foundation selected the organizations based on their capability of immediately putting funds to work in the communities the credit union serves, to help people who have been affected by the various impacts of COVID-19.
