Collins Community Credit Union helped members through the Iowa Credit Union Foundation disaster grant

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (April 13, 2017) — Collins Community Credit Union, headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, brings the “people helping people” philosophy of the credit union movement to life by securing a $500 grant from the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s disaster relief program.

Michelle Bradley, Assistant Member Service Consultant Manager, at Collin’s Iowa City branch assisted a member in securing the $500 grant from the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s disaster relief program after a house fire caused significant damage to the member’s home.

The family was displaced following a house fire in December 2016. “I read an article about another family receiving a grant from the ICUF. I was moved by this family’s plight and decided to locate more information on how we could help to get them get back on their feet.” stated Michelle Bradley, Assistant Member Service Consultant Manager. “In early March, I printed out the application and approached this particular member to see if they would fill it out to start the process. I mailed it to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation on his behalf and less than a week later I received a call from the Foundation stating our member had been approved for the grant. I was ecstatic to be able to tell him he was receiving $500 to assist his family in this desperate time of need! He was eligible simply because he is a member of a credit union.”
