ALEXANDRIA, VA (May 30, 2014) -- CommonWealth One’s Annual Community Shred Days were held on April 26 in Harrisonburg and May 3 in Alexandria, Virginia. In Harrisonburg, a record number of pounds of paper were shredded with 8,020 total pounds by H&R Contractors, 3,520 pounds more than last year. There were 11,400 pounds shredded at the Alexandria event by Safeguard Shredding.
Members and community were encouraged to shred their personal documents for free and to enjoy fun family activities at both locations. In Alexandria, students from the T.C. Williams High School Academy of Finance (“AOF”) supported the event by helping members shred their documents. They held a fundraiser to benefit the Academy and played fun games with children. In Harrisonburg, local police officers from the Harrisonburg City Police Department provided child fingerprinting kits and educated the public on bike safety.
“The community’s support for our shred days far surpassed our expectations,” said Charlotte Cash, President/CEO. “This is one event that we all look forward to every year.”
