Community Grant Awards helps local programs in Manton

Forest Area Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the presentation of two Community Grant Award checks totaling $3000 in the community of Manton.

FIFE LAKE, MI (March 3, 2016) — Forest Area Federal Credit Union Community Grant Program awards $1000 to Manton Area Schools to support an annual middle school student trip to Chicago and $2000 to Colfax Greenwood Fire Department for the purchase of new firefighter equipment.

“Manton Middle School will leave on its annual trip to Chicago on May 26, 2016.  Since our students are submerged in a heavily rural environment, we find it important to provide them with a quality urban experience in middle school.  The cost of this trip can inhibit some of our students from receiving this experience, so we have made it a priority that all students who would like to go, can go.  We have been extremely fortunate to have individuals and businesses make contributions to help these students with the financial burden.  Forest Area Credit Union has been by far and away our biggest supporter for the last two years.  With their help, we have been able to provide an amazing opportunity for some students that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.  As the leader of this trip, I am very grateful for the financial support we receive, but the smiles on faces and the stories told after this trip will express this gratitude much better than I can.  Thanks again for all of your help!” states Kip Damgard, 7th/8th Grade Math Teacher, Manton Middle School.

“Colfax Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department is a small fire department that consists of 13 fire fighters. It is located halfway between Manton and Mesick on 16 Road in Colfax Township. Due to rising costs with the Manton Fire Department in 1978 Colfax and Greenwood Township decided to form their own fire department. Colfax Greenwood Fire Department covers both the Townships of Colfax and Greenwood but also assists other areas as needed such as Mesick, Buckley, Kingsley, Cedar Creek, The City of Manton, Selma and at times have been toned to assist The City of Fife Lake, Manistee and Missaukee Counties.

In 2015 Forest Area Federal Credit Union awarded Colfax Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department with a generous grant of $3000.00. The fire department was able to purchase and update the air masks that are used when a fire fighter must enter a burning building or be in a very smoky environment. In 2016 Forest Area Federal Credit Union again awarded the Colfax Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department with another generous grant donation in the amount of $2000.00.  This will help the fire department to purchase new turn out gear for eight fire fighters who currently have out dated turn out gear. Colfax Greenwood Fire Department and the Fire Fighters are very thankful for the very generous grant donations from the Forest Area Federal Credit Union.” states Colfax Greenwood Fire Department Chief Alan Mohler.

Forest Area Federal Credit Union’s Community Grant Program is available to continue support of our communities in a way that could enhance the lives of our membership.
