Community Partners Join Forces to Make this MaPS Credit Union’s Best Shred Day

SALEM, Ore.— MaPS Credit Union and its partners shredded a record-setting 33,000 pounds of personal documents at no charge for the local community. MaPS partnered with Iron Mountain and O’Brien Auto Group for the free community Shred Day, the sixth annual event, to help protect the finances and identities of attendees. Nearly 700 cars attended the event at MaPS Credit Union’s Administration Building in downtown Salem.

Both MaPS and O’Brien opened their parking lots to host the event. MaPS provided publicity as well as staff to direct traffic. Iron Mountain handled the shredding.

“It was great to see so many people come down for this event—and to see Iron Mountain send for an extra truck to ensure that everyone who came got their papers shredded securely on-site,” said Jill Nowacki, vice president of development. “Shred day is one of our signature annual events, and we are proud that it continues to grow each year.”

MaPS Credit Union has come a long way since a group of 17 volunteers joined together in 1935, running the credit union out of kitchens and living rooms in homes throughout Marion County. Today, MaPS serves nearly 38,000 members in Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Linn, Benton, Clackamas, Washington, and Multnomah counties. The credit union has eight branches located in east, west, south and central Salem; Keizer; the Willamette University campus; Monmouth; Silverton; and Woodburn.
