Compass Community Credit Union joins in the Coastal Cleanup Month

EUREKA, CA (October 24, 2023) — Compass staff, joined by friends and family, came out to support the local community by volunteering for the Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Northcoast Environmental Center (NEC). This is one of the largest cleanup events in Humboldt County. This annual event inspires hundreds of volunteers to pick up thousands of pounds of trash around our community. Several Compass staff members came out to show their support on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and hit the trails at the nearby Redwood Park, located in Arcata. They were able to make a clean sweep, moving trash so that the park and trails were back to their natural, beautiful state.

Community members had the opportunity to participate in cleanups every weekend in September and collect valuable data on local trash patterns. For 50 years, the NEC has served as a vital hub for information and programs that involve, inform, and inspire residents with regard to environmental issues that matter most on California’s North Coast.

“I’m so proud of our staff that took the time to volunteer for this cleanup and invest back into our local community,” said Compass Community Credit Union CEO, Ray Litchfield. “These folks work hard all week to meet the financial needs of our members and to take time out of their weekend to support a terrific cause is truly amazing.”

The Northcoast Environmental Center’s mission is to promote understanding of the relations between people and the biosphere and to conserve, protect, and celebrate terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems of northern California and southern Oregon. The Northcoast Environmental Center was founded in 1971, shortly after the original Earth Day.
