Connex Credit Union aids the fight against hunger by donating more than $650 to Community Soup Kitchen
NORTH HAVEN, CT (November 23, 2015) — With its Coins-for-Change program Connex Credit Union has developed a way to utilize our often neglected pocket change to make a difference in the fight against hunger. As a part of its community-giving program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $650, from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at their Meriden branch, to Community Soup Kitchen. Coins-for-Change charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community.
“In order to accomplish our mission of feeding hungry people, Community Soup Kitchen relies upon the generosity of the entire community,” said David O’Sullivan, coordinator, Community Soup Kitchen. “This donation from Connex shows how even a simple effort can make a big difference to a small local agency.”
Community Soup Kitchen (CSK) is a subsidiary of The Connecticut Food Bank and the Feeding America program. CSK offers meals five days a week to the hungry and the homeless. The kitchen does not receive state or federal funds and is operated completely through donations. In addition to providing free meals, CSK acts as a host site for agencies that offer assistance to its guests such as nurses who provide blood pressure screenings or on-site HIV tests. For more information, or to donate, please visit their website.
If you are a local non-profit or charitable organization interested in participating in the Coins-for-Change program, please contact Roquita Johnson at Connex Credit Union, at 203-603-5787 or rjohnson@connexcu.org.
