Consumers Credit Union announces 2014 Dollars for Scholars Scholarship winners

KALAMAZOO, MI (June 5, 2014) -- Consumers Credit Union is pleased to announce the winners of our annual Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program. The credit union has been helping student members achieve their dreams of attending college for over 20 years. More than 90 scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception. The Dollars for a Scholars program is funded by staff on “Casual for a Cause” Fridays, as well as from coin machine revenue.

This year, Consumers awarded 20 graduating high school seniors scholarships of $1,000 along with an iPad. Each applicant is evaluated with equal emphasis on academic achievement, community service, essay content, and letters of recommendation.

Says Andrea Goodin, Chair of the Dollars for Scholars Committee, “Scholarship winners are not only exemplary students; they are excellent citizens in our community.”

On Tuesday, June 3, this year’s Dollars for Scholars winners were honored in a reception held at the credit union’s Stadium Drive corporate office in Kalamazoo. 2014 Dollars for Scholars winners represent 13 local high schools, as well as home school students.
