KALAMAZOO, MI (March 13, 2015) -- Consumers Credit Union announces plans to build its new corporate headquarters on a 22-acre site located at the Groves in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Consumers Credit Union selected the site for its natural setting, visibility and its central location in West Michigan, where Consumers began serving members in 1951. Located at the intersection of I-94 at Ninth Street and 7200 Elm Valley Drive, the new three-story, 80,000-square-foot building represents a significant expansion and upgrade from their current facilities located at 6850 and 7040 Stadium Drive. While it is expected that they will sell these two current locations on Stadium, a new retail office for the Stadium Drive corridor is part of their strategic plan.
“With Consumers Credit Union now serving over 61,000 members at 16 offices, our growth has led to team members working in multiple locations,” says Kit Snyder, President and CEO of Consumers Credit Union. “Our new headquarters brings us the space and infastructure needed to support collaboration and team work to continue to bring world class member service. It also becomes one central location for recruiting and retention of West Michigan talent.”
The Class A facility will be designed to emphasize flexibility and interactivity along with a connection to nature. The building includes a focus on sustainability in building and design, including wellness amenities, with ample parking for employees and visitors. The building will include collaborative workstations and an innovative lab with state of the art technology to increase learning and innovation. It is also being designed to accommodate future growth.
“This announcement underscores Consumers’ strong commitment to West Michigan, including its communities and its economy,” said Snyder. “We are very proud to build our new headquarters in Kalamazoo, where we have been for nearly 65 years.”
The new headquarters building is being designed by HOK, a leading global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm. AVB of Portage, Michigan will be the construction manager for the project. Kalamazoo’s Bosch Architecture will assist locally as a consultant to the process. Construction is expected to begin late summer 2015 with completion anticipated in 2017.
