Cornerstone Credit Union League announces ‘Crashers’ for CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference

PLANO, TX (January 31, 2017) — Cornerstone Credit Union League announces that Abram Rodriquez of Border Federal Credit Union, Adam Ennett of Oklahoma Central Credit Union, and Michael Armstrong of Alcoa Community Federal Credit Union have been selected to attend the 2017 “Crash the GAC.”

Crash the GAC is an annual event sponsored by The Cooperative Trust and Credit Union National Association (CUNA), and in coordination with Cornerstone Credit Union League. The Crash brings young credit union professionals together in a specially tailored program that runs alongside CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, DC. This year’s GAC takes place Feb. 26–March 2.

Crash participants, or Crashers, can expect opportunities for networking and mentor sessions with key individuals from the likes of National Credit Union Foundation, CUNA, Filene Research Institute, and CUNA Mutual Group.

“I am honored to be attending as a Crasher and feel fortunate to represent Cornerstone at the GAC Conference,” said Armstrong, a senior vice president at Alcoa Community. “Being new to the Credit Union Movement, I hope to interact and network with other leaders and learn from them. My goal is to pick up new techniques and ideas to bring awareness to credit unions and the hard work we do every day to enhance our members’ lives. I would like to thank my CEO, Steve Brown, and my board for allowing me to participate in such a worthwhile event.”

All Crashers receive a complimentary registration to attend the GAC from CUNA. Cornerstone supplies grants to Crashers that assist with their travel and other expenses.

“We are pleased to once again provide grants for our member credit union Crashers,” said Cornerstone SVP Member Relations Mike Delker. “We are committed to supporting these young professionals as they strive to be more engaged in and knowledgeable about the Credit Union Movement locally and nationwide.”

“The Crasher program and its enthusiastic participants have truly become a staple of the GAC experience,” said Jim Nussle, CUNA president/CEO. “I’m always in awe of this group’s excitement and passion for credit unions. I very much look forward to working with them throughout the week to build up their confidence as future credit union leaders, and also to gain their critical, fresh perspectives on the direction of our industry and what it means to them to advocate for credit unions on Capitol Hill.”

“We are so excited to bring 50 young professionals to Washington, DC, this year,” says James Marshall, manager of The Cooperative Trust. “With a new administration in place, it is more important than ever for our young credit union professionals to be at the CUNA GAC, and we’re privileged to be able to provide the opportunity.”
