Corporate Central announces speakers for 2018 Economic Forum

MILWAUKEE, WI (September 20, 2018) — Corporate Central Credit Union invites credit union executives to learn, share information, and network at its upcoming 2018 Economic Outlook Conference. This year’s event—held on Thursday, October 11 at Monona Terrace in Madison, Wis.—will offer credit union-specific economic insights related to fiscal policy, market opportunity, risk management, and growth planning. The registration deadline is Thursday, October 4.

“Our flagship event will feature well-respected professionals offering information, insight, and analysis that will help credit union leaders prepare and plan for 2019,” said Chris Felton, Corporate Central President/CEO. “We’re confident that participants will bring back to their credit unions valuable information regarding how to prosper in the current and upcoming economic environments.”

The Conference’s speaker line-up includes:

  • Clare Zempel, CFA, CBE, Principal of Zempel Strategic. Zempel will speak about the economic and financial outlook for 2018-2021, specifically addressing trade-war threats, narrowing yield spreads and other dark headlines that have fueled unrest in the financial markets despite economic indicators telling a more positive story. Zempel will also advise participants about how to protect their credit unions during market downturns, and how to exploit opportunity in times of economic upturns. Appearing on CNBC and NPR, Zempel has been recognized as a leading economist and investment strategist by The New York Times Magazine and Business Week. The Executive Education Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison calls him a “dynamic expert on investments” and “the Midwest’s most sought-after communicator of savvy, practical investment advice.”
  • Daniel Heckman, SVP, National Investment Consultant, U.S. Bank. Heckman will provide participants with a 2018 economic and market update, specifically addressing the question of how much longer the current upswing will last, the impact of tax cuts on the U.S. economy, and the impact of recent tariffs on the global economy. He will also speak on potential Federal Reserve rate hikes and ongoing trade battles that threaten to derail the U.S. economy and capital markets. Heckman is often quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Kiplinger, Reuters, CNBC, Fox Business Channel, and Bloomberg News. He brings 31 years of investment and wealth management expertise to the conference.
  • Curt Long, Chief Economist and Vice President of Research, NAFCU. Long will speak on shifting patterns in U.S. household finance, specifically addressing how the Great Recession will impact families for decades to come. An expert in economic and financial policy research and provider of ongoing economic analysis for NAFCU’s staff and member credit unions, Long will review recent changes in consumer behavior and the household balance sheet modifications those behaviors have instigated. He will also provide insights into the future of overall household finance. Long is an assistant producer of several NAFCU publications, including the quarterly CU Performance Benchmark Report and the monthly Economic & CU Monitor.
  • Jay Johnson, President, CUFSLP. Johnson will speak about the “New Credit Union Era,” addressing the industry’s future opportunities and challenges. A credit union strategist with over 22 years of financial experience, Johnson will address how rising interest rates, the shifting regulatory climate, and increased competition will affect credit unions going forward. His presentation will provide real-world examples of successful strategies, tactics and programs, and present a new way of thinking about cooperative benchmarking. Johnson is a partner at Callahan & Associates. He oversees both Callahan’s Credit Union Financial Services Limited Partnership (CUFSLP) and Trust for Credit Unions.
