CREDIT UNION AND ASSOCIATION VETERAN TO HEAD UP MID-AMERICA CREDIT UNION ASSOCIATION IN THE DAKOTAS.

Robbie Thompson hired as CEO-president of the North and South Dakota credit union trade association.

BISMARCK, ND – Mid-America Credit Union Association (MACUA) announces the hiring of Robbie Thompson as CEO-president.

Everyone at Mid-America and credit unions across the Dakotas are excited to welcome Robbie to the Dakota credit union family, says MACUA Board Chair Doug Thompson. Robbie brings a tremendous amount of credit union and association management experience to our organization. His background in working directly in credit unions as well association leadership and his hands-on experience in professional trade association advocacy will be a valuable asset to our credit union members across the Dakotas. We are excited to welcome Robbie and his family to Bismarck, adds Thompson.

Thompson has almost 20 years in the financial services industry.  He is currently is Vice President General Counsel of Members Cooperative Credit Union, a $280 million credit union headquartered in Cloquet, MN.

Previously he served as Association General Counsel of the Minnesota Credit Union Association. Prior, he served as Senior Vice President of League Services and General Counsel for the New Jersey Credit Union League. While at the NJCUL he provided legal advice and support to the Credit Union League and oversaw various areas of the association including the education department, compliance and legal department,

non-profit foundation, and small credit union initiative

Thompson has been a speaker at numerous local and national conferences on compliance and legal topics and has published articles in a number of publications. Thompson is a member of the American Bar Association and the Minnesota Bar Association. He has a Bachelors Degree from the University of Minnesota-Morris, and Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law.

I am excited about the opportunity to be part of MACUA. Credit unions face many challenges in the years ahead, but also have many opportunities. A strong MACUA now and in the future will help credit unions both address those challenges and find those solutions. I want to put a significant focus on the MACUA being a strong advocate both politically and in our communities for credit unions. I look forward to getting to work and hearing from the credit unions in North and South Dakota about the direction they hope to see MACUA take in the future.

I congratulate Robbie on this move and am confident that credit unions of the Mid-America Association will benefit from his knowledge, drive and passion, said Minnesota Credit Union Network President & CEO Mark D. Cummins. I’m pleased to see him, a former Minnesota Credit Union Network employee and Minnesota credit union senior staff member continuing his career in the movement. Through his leadership, I look forward to developing a close working relationship with our neighboring credit unions in North and South Dakota.

“The Mid-America League made a great choice in Robbie Thompson. I worked closely with Robbie during his days at the New Jersey Credit Union League and in that time I saw his dedication to the movement and true passion for credit unions,” said New Jersey League President/CEO Paul Gentile. “Robbie understands the operational, marketplace, and political challenges credit unions are facing. He will be a great leader for North and South Dakota credit unions during these very interesting times.”

Thompson is an avid baseball fan who currently lives in Minnesota with his wife and three children and he enjoys spending time with his family, reading and coaching wrestling.

Headquartered in Bismarck, ND, MACUA is a professional trade association that serves 78 credit unions in North and South Dakota, and 442,314 credit union members with assets in excess of $4.4 billion.
