Credit Union of Ohio lifts up local causes through monthly donation program

HILLARD, OH (February 4, 2019) — Hilliard-based Credit Union of Ohio donated over $7,000 to support 12 local nonprofit organizations through its Denim and Donations program last year. One organization was selected as a donation recipient per month, and staff members were invited to donate $10 to wear jeans to work for a week in support of the selected cause. Credit Union of Ohio then matched each month’s collected donations from staff, dollar for dollar. The program is set to continue in 2019 with hundreds of dollars already raised.

Denim and Donations was initiated by Credit Union of Ohio’s CEO, Rich Capuano, to provide support to local organizations. Causes were chosen based on their proximity to Credit Union of Ohio branches and the range of impact they provide to its member communities. Checks were presented to the organizations at the end of the respective month and announcements were made through Credit Union of Ohio’s social media channels to further lift up the causes.

“We do not notify the recipients in advance, so they are typically pleasantly surprised and grateful for the extra funding. This project has provided us another outlet to spread the people helping people way of life at our credit union and within our community,” said Credit Union of Ohio’s VP of Marketing and Strategic Planning Jill Gerschutz.

The following organizations benefitted from the project in 2018: Little Hercules Foundation (January); Dot’s Tots Foundation (February); The Buckeye Ranch (March); USO of Central & Southern Ohio (April); Buckeye Food Alliance (May); Hilliard Food Pantry (June); Grove City Food Pantry (July); SON Ministries (August); Tortorella Family Foundation (September); Children’s Hunger Alliance (October); Special Olympics of Ohio (November) and Recreation Unlimited Camps & Retreat Center (December).
