Credit Union of Southern California donates $200,000 to local organizations

ANAHEIM HILLS, CA (August 1, 2019) — Anaheim Hills, CA-based Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) recently donated $200,000 to 16 local organizations at the July 17 Wake Up Whittier event, Whittier Chamber of Commerce’s largest monthly networking event.

CU SoCal hosts this event at its Whittier Greenleaf branch every year. Its annual theme of “Christmas in July” is typically reflected by festive red and green decorations, including Christmas trees, Santa, and snowmen.

At this year’s event, CU SoCal CEO Dave Gunderson presented a check representing the $200,000 in combined donations to the charitable organizations. State Senator Bob Archuleta, D-Pico Rivera, attended and briefly addressed the crowd.

The donations ranged from $5,000 to $50,000. Among the Whittier-based non-profit organizations to benefit were La Serna High School OASIS Program Endowment; the Whittier Host Lions Club’s Sight for Kids program; Soroptimist International of Whittier; PIH Health Foundation; Whitter Area Community Church’s Welcome Home Project; Love Whittier; Whittier Mayor’s “Choice”; Women’s and Children’s Crisis Shelter; La Serna High School Football Program; Boys and Girls Club Whittier; Whittier Community Foundation’s Fire Tribute and 5K Spooktacular; Whittier Chamber’s Hathaway Golf Tournament; Whittier Hearing Angel Foundation; and the Rio Hondo College Foundation. Together We Rise in Brea and Tara’s Chance in Fullerton also received donations.

“At CU SoCal, we believe that giving is truly living. Together we’re challenging our team to support the Whittier community in every way imaginable. None of us is as good as all of us.” said Gunderson

Ken LaVigne from La Serna High School’s OASIS Program Endowment had this to say about the CU SoCal donation: “All I can think or feel or say right now is ‘Amazing!’ We can’t express our respect and gratitude for all you have done for our students.”
