MIAMI, FL (January 29, 2014) – South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union (SFEFCU) officially opened its 9th in-school branch on January 23rd, 2014. Named Red Raiders Credit Union, the new branch resides inside Miami Edison Senior High School and has a two-fold mission: promote financial literacy and provide hands-on work experience to students.
Red Raiders is run by student volunteers who are currently enrolled in Miami Edison’s National Academy of Finance and Entrepreneurship program. Under the supervision of SFEFCU staff, students will develop work-readiness skills and critical training in financial literacy. They will serve as tellers, member service representatives and will assist members in making deposits and withdrawals, opening accounts, and answering financially related questions.
In addition to offering banking services and encouraging savings habits, SFEFCU will also impart its award-winning financial literacy curriculum, “Got Green?” Students will attend workshops on goal setting, money management, budgeting, investing, and credit management.
