Credit Unions encourage members to “Shop for Miracles” on behalf of local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals on Oct. 15

Credit Unions for Kids campaign raises vital funds to support pediatric patients

DANA POINT, CA (September 28, 2015) — Credit unions across the United States still have time to sign-up and participate in Shop for Miracles, a one-day Credit Unions for Kids program that raises funds for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) on International Credit Union Day® Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015.

Each time credit union members use their credit union-issued credit or debit card on Oct. 15, the participating credit union will donate $0.25 or other pre-determined amount to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Funds raised will benefit children’s hospitals across the United States to provide healthcare services, critical treatments, pediatric medical equipment and charitable care.

More than 75 credit unions, representing 29 states, are currently signed up to participate. To see a full list of participating credit unions visit www.cu4kids.org/shopformiracles.

“The Shop for Miracles program is a great example of credit unions coming together to support their local community,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “We are grateful to the credit unions who take part in this program and the countless miracles they help make happen for sick and injured kids treated across the country at CMN Hospitals.”

In 2014, 108 credit unions participated in Shop for Miracles, raising $450,000 including $50,000 in matching funds from CO-OP Financial Services’ Miracle Match program. Credit unions interested in learning more about the CO-OP match can visit www.co-opfs.org/miraclematch.

The campaign coincides with International Credit Union Day®, which celebrates the credit union difference and the work being accomplished around the world. Credit unions can register for Shop for Miracles at www.cu4kids.org/shopformiracles. Marketing collateral and other resources to help credit unions promote the campaign to members are also available on the website. Follow the action at #ShopForMiracles.

Since 1996, credit unions fundraising under the Credit Unions for Kids brand have raised over $150 million for local CMN Hospitals.

About Credit Unions for Kids and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

Credit Unions for Kids is the brand under which America’s credit unions fundraise for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The collaborative effort, which is driven by a “people helping people” philosophy, includes individual credit unions; local chapters; state leagues/associations; two national trade organizations; business partners and several trade publications.

The program was introduced nationally in 1996 and since that time the credit union movement has raised over $150 million for affiliated children’s hospitals. Annually, credit unions are the fifth largest “corporate” contributor to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The credit union community has established a wonderful legacy at hospitals across the country, funding breakthrough research, numerous programs and services and construction of new facilities. Fundraising activities run the gamut from major events to online giving campaigns to paper balloon icon sales.
