Credit unions in Oklahoma jointly present concert at Scissortail Park featuring country Music Star Chris Young

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (October 19, 2023)In a groundbreaking collaborative effort, a coalition of local credit unions in Oklahoma City, OK came together to host a free concert at Scissortail Park on October 14th, 2023. The free-to-everyone event, featuring renowned country artist Chris Young, drew an estimated crowd of over 18,000 country music fans from Oklahoma and surrounding states.

The
CU in the Park concert was the first of its kind collaborative effort of these independent Oklahoma credit unions and was free and open to the public on the stage of the Great Lawn at Scissortail Park.

Chris Young, an award-winning country artist and a household name, took to the stage and delivered an electrifying performance that had the audience singing along to his favorite hits. Country music up-and-comer Robyn Ottolini set the tone for the evening as the opening act.

Together, these eight local credit unions from Oklahoma joined forces to create an unforgettable experience for the local community, and their vision became an extraordinary reality.

“We’re thrilled to have been part of this historic event,” said Luann Schmiedel, CEO of Oklahoma’s Credit Union, one of the participating credit unions. “The synergy of credit unions coming together for a common cause and the incredible turnout of concertgoers is a testament to the power of community and the love for music in our city. This event embodied the very essence of what credit unions stand for – people helping people.”

The event began with a simple idea: bring people together for a night of music and fun, celebrating the spirit of community that credit unions embody, with fans streaming into Scissortail Park from across the state, providing a substantial economic benefit to Oklahoma City. In addition to the concert being promoted by participating credit unions, many major television and media outlets covered the event, exposing tens of thousands to the credit union message.
