CSCU gives back for CU day
Social media campaign launched to help Irma & Maria victims
TAMPA, FL (October 5, 2017) — CSCU, one of the country’s leading CUSOs, recently launched a social media campaign in celebration of International Credit Union Day. During the period October 9 – October 20, the organization is inviting all CUs to share pictures and videos of their plans and activities for International CU Day on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #CSCU. In turn, CSCU will donate $5 for each post or tweet and $10 for each share or retweet of CSCU’s posts and tweets with the hashtag #ICUDay towards hurricane relief efforts.
“This social media campaign is an opportunity for us to show our support of the CU movement and encourage CUs to share what they are doing to celebrate the day, while thinking of our colleagues who may not be able to celebrate this year,” says CSCU vice president of marketing Jennifer Bryant. “In September, we made donations to the American Red Cross and CUAID, so we plan on making this donation to the World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU’s) Caribbean Relief Efforts in recognition of the global support that CUs provide to each other and to help the 15 countries across the Caribbean that have been seriously impacted by hurricanes Irma and Maria,” added Bryant.
Since 1948, Credit Union Day, which later became International CU Day, has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October. This year, it is being observed on October 19. The day represents the impact of the CU movement across the world. Each year, 68,000 credit unions in 109 countries celebrate the movement in some way, big or small. In the United States, the celebration is being spearheaded by CUNA and the WOCCU under the theme “Dreams Thrive Here” using the hashtag #ICUDay.
“Through this effort, CSCU also wants to bring more awareness around International CU Day and the impact of the movement globally. Additionally, we want to highlight the CU philosophy of “people helping people” and showcase what CUs and CUSOs do for CUs around the world. We plan to match the funds raised from this campaign,” noted Bryant.
