CU Members Mortgage continues 2021 educational series with ‘Self-Employed Borrower Basics – Personal Tax Return Review’

CU Members Mortgage, a division of Colonial Savings, F.A., is hosting a free webinar as part of their 2021 Educational Series entitled “Self-Employed Borrower Basics – Personal Tax Return Review” on Thursday, August 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. CT with guest speaker from Enact MI MaryKay Scully.

Self-employed borrowers often add challenges to the mortgage process with complicated tax returns. In this session, Scully will share how to review the basic business types and how they relate and flow to a borrower’s personal return (1040). She will also identify the allowable business adjustments required and review a balance sheet. Other objectives include reviewing basic information needed to understand how to find qualifying income through tax returns.  This session is perfect for mortgage professionals, loan officers, processors and underwriters.

“As we continue on with our webinar series, we couldn’t leave out a session on self-employed borrowers. It’s one of the more challenging files to work,” said Steve Hewins, Senior Vice-President of CU Members Mortgage. “Offering this session will help our credit union friends go through the basics of self-employed borrower tax returns and adjustments, and also offer tips throughout.  Mortgage professionals will find this session very helpful.”
