Bismarck, ND – It was a successful visit to the North Dakota State Fair held in Minot, ND last week for the CU on the Road tour, part of an awareness campaign being conducted by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD).
CUAD staff Robbie Thompson, President/CEO and Kristie Heit, Director of Strategic Initiatives, greeted fairgoers alongside the CU on the Road vehicle at the entry gates all day on Tuesday and handed out credit union information and 1500 stickers that said “Credit Unions R Cool” to visitors.
On Wednesday, Co-op Day at the Fair was held starting early in the morning with a free breakfast. Volunteers, including CUAD’s Kristie Heit and others from Minot area credit unions (GEM FCU, Prairie Federal CU and Town & Country CU), served over 800 guests at the Co-op tent a free meal of pancakes, sausage, and fruit.
During the day at the credit union booth under the Co-Op tent, credit union volunteers along with Heit continued to talk to people about credit unions, handing out information and the “Credit Unions R Cool” stickers to an additional 1200 visitors! The CU on the Road vehicle was on site, and people could take a guess at the number of balloons that filled it. While over 1,000 people made an attempt, only one person guessed the correct number of 192 balloons, winning a $100 prize.
In the afternoon, the Co-op and credit union volunteers served over 3000 free ice cream cones to fairgoers as a way of showing gratitude to their members for their support.
