CUFD donates $5,000 for victims of Hurricane Harvey
BISMARCK, ND (August 29, 2017) — As the National Credit Union Foundation activated CUAid this week and put out a call for donations to help the victims of devastating Hurricane Harvey, the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) heard their pleas and took action. Members of the CUFD committee unanimously voted to make an immediate $5,000 donation to assist with relief efforts.
Nearly 50 credit union institutions have already reported closures and damage as a result of the historic storm and ongoing flooding, and we can only imagine the number of credit union employees and members that will be affected in Texas, Louisiana, and areas across the southern coast.
Six years ago, in 2011, credit unions in the Dakotas received support from the CUAid system when parts of North Dakota and South Dakota flooded along the Missouri River. More than $36,000 was distributed to our own credit union members and employees in Minot, ND, an area that was particularly hard hit.
“There is no doubt that making this donation to CUAid is the right thing to do,” said Mike Reisnour, CEO of Dakota Plains CU (Edgeley, ND) and CUFD Board Chair. “Not only is it time to pay it forward, credit unions and credit union people have always been about ‘people helping people’ – we must do what we can to help,” he concluded.
The National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid.coop site is available to receive donations to help credit union people affected by the storm.
