CUInsight appoints Lauren Culp Publisher/CEO

GREENVILLE, SC (August 7, 2019) — After a national search, CUInsight has selected Lauren Culp to serve as the media outlet’s Publisher/CEO, effective September 3, 2019.

Culp, most recently with the Filene Research Institute where she oversaw the nationally-renowned Cooperative Trust program, will take over Publisher responsibilities from CUInsight’s co-founder Randall Smith. Culp will also serve as the organization’s first-ever CEO.

“CUInsight has had ten great years serving the credit union industry so far,” said Smith. “To keep bringing new value to the industry, we needed to prepare for bigger growth. Lauren’s history of engagement across the industry and her strategic vision make her the perfect choice to drive us forward.”

Smith and co-founder David Miller will remain engaged with CUInsight, overseeing the business from an ownership advisory position, while Smith also serves in a strategic innovation role.

CUInsight.com was the industry’s first entirely digital news source when it was launched in 2008. Its community section has grown to host the largest group of contributing credit union thought leaders in a single location and its recently launched podcast, The CUInsight Experience, gives a different look into the leadership insights of top leaders inside and outside the credit union industry.

“I’m thrilled to take the helm of such an innovative and collaborative organization,” said Culp. “CUInsight serves as a valuable resource for credit unions and our partners. It is an honor to join the team and continue to support the incredible work credit unions do every day.”

As the leader of the Cooperative Trust, Culp has significant experience in collaboration and innovation, having orchestrated the industry’s largest-ever Crash the GAC that brought together emerging leaders from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as industry players like CUNA, CUNA Mutual Group, the Filene Research Institute, Visa, and the National Credit Union Foundation. Prior to her work with Filene, Lauren served for five years at True North Federal Credit Union in Alaska.

CUInsight engaged Humanidei to complete their search. Understanding demographic and psychographic shifts that contribute to the complexity of winning the war for talent, Humanidei worked with CUInsight to architect its ideal organizational structure and articulate the organization’s bigger purpose.

“CUInsight has always prioritized employees having the flexibility to live full lives,” said Miller. “Working with Humanidei, we found the words and structure to embody this commitment to our employees, as well as to our bigger purpose. Using this in our search attracted a large pool of top talent and helped us identify who among this very qualified group best fit our company vision. This process brought us a CEO who is certain to move our brand forward into a media company of the future.”
