Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

The 46th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run will take place Sunday, April 8, starting at 7:30 a.m. on the Washington Monument Grounds, Washington, D.C. Known as the “Runner’s Rite of Spring,” the race course is a fast, flat route around the iconic memorials in the nation’s capital. The race is on the “bucket list” of things to do in Washington, D.C. according to the Washingtonian Magazine. There is also a 5K Walk-Run on April 8, and a Kids’ Run on April 7.

More than 600 Congressional staffers are running – not for office – but to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) through their participation in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run this year. Fifty-five teams of House and Senate staffers will engage in a spirited and friendly Capitol Hill Competition, sponsored by the Congressional Federal Credit Union and United States Senate Federal Credit Union, as part of the larger run. The team with the best race time wins the Capitol Hill Cup to display in its office until the next year’s race. More than 200 members of Congress from 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and Guam are serving as Honorary Co-chairs this year.

The check will be presented at a kick-off press conference at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, in Room HVC 201 in the Capitol Visitor Center. A patient family will be on hand to receive the check, along with representatives from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Children’s National in D.C., a CMNH affiliate, will be hosting a tour for credit union officials of the hospital on Friday, April 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The check will also be presented at the Saturday, April 1 Kids’Run at the National Building Museum in D.C. Dr. Bear from Children’s National will greet the patient family and hundreds of kids, ages 4 – 10, who are participating in the ½ mile fun run. Activities begin around 8:00 a.m. with field day activities, and the first age-group wave goes off at 9:30 a.m.
