CUTX donates identifying sashes to McKinney Police Department

Sashes used by police for recognition while on civilian duty during a crisis situation

ALLEN, TX (November 20, 2018) — Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) recently donated funds to purchase police sashes for the McKinney, Texas Police Department. These sashes are used to easily identify officers during a crisis situation when an officer is wearing civilian clothing. The presentation of funds was given on Thursday, November 15, 2018 to some of the officers on the McKinney Police Force.

According to Don’t Shoot Me (DSM), undercover identification is tricky. Members of law enforcement, security staff, retired officers, tactical teams, undercover officers and medical staff struggle with how to quickly identify themselves at unfortunate events. As critical incident responses arise, absolute safety is paramount. Using easy to deploy safely sashes ensures identification is instant for a law enforcement member.

Jennifer Olvera, community engagement manager at CUTX, explained, “Sponsoring the sashes for the police department demonstrates our support to our first responders. Unfortunately, the sashes were recently needed at McKinney North High School. Several officers arrived from various departments, and while surveying the high school scene it was difficult to distinguish between the police officers and civilians.”

McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley said, “We made it a goal to get the sashes for officers that served in McKinney. We applaud and sincerely thank CUTX for making this donation. Now should another situation arise our police officers would be easily identifiable.”
