HOUSTON, TX (October 23, 2017) — Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union (Cy-Fair FCU) is excited to announce that Dana Herzog of Yeager Elementary, received a brand new 2017 Ford Focus. Cy-Fair FCU presented Herzog with the surprise award during Thursday night’s Cy-Fair Education Foundation (CFEF) Salute to the Stars gala.
“Herzog is the heart of Yeager Elementary School. She is constantly looking for ways to help our struggling readers and is always current on the latest research-based teaching methods for literacy. Herzog brings so much fun and joy to our campus. Her “can do” attitude when met with a challenge sets a precedent for us all,” said Laura Barrett, principal.
The annual event, sponsored by Cypress-Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, celebrates the contributions of all Cy-Fair Independent School District educators and recognizes the top teachers, para-educators and support personnel from across the district. CFISD principals selected more than 90 “Spotlight Honorees” for their outstanding dedication to students and incredible work in CFISD schools. During the Salute to the Stars gala, honorees were entered into Cy-Fair FCU’s New Car Giveaway which awarded Herzog a brand-new Ford Focus.
“Teachers are the bedrock of our community. They pour endless hours and energy into our children and we recognize and thank each and every one of these outstanding professionals,” said Cy-Fair FCU President and CEO Cameron Dickey. “This car is just one gesture of our gratitude to the incredible educators who selflessly serve our local Cy-Fair kids.”
Started more than 60 years ago by 10 employees of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, Dickey added that Cy-Fair FCU honors that legacy by seeking opportunities to support local schools, teachers and students. This commitment of support directed more than $250,000 worth of financial support into the local community in 2016. This included $24,000 in mortgage payments to a Spotlight Teacher during last year’s Salute to the Stars gala, awarding more than $9,000 in college scholarships to help seven local students pursue higher education, and delivering $1,800 through the credit union’s Extreme Classroom Makeover competition for teachers to update and enhance their teaching environments for increased student engagement and learning. The annual CFEF Salute to the Stars gala helps to raise funds for college scholarships to graduating seniors in CFISD schools.
