Dakota Scholarships

BISMARCK ND- A survey that the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas put out in May asked credit union managers and chapter chairs in North and South Dakota to list scholarships that they provided. 

Now, the 2011 data has been collected and compiled, and the results show a great generosity and commitment to education on the part of Dakota credit unions.

With a total of 81 credit unions (nearly 100%) responding, we learned that 38 credit unions in North and South Dakota provided scholarships to high school and/or college students.  A total of 121 separate scholarships were given that totaled $74,250.

Three different chapters also provided scholarships, and their cumulative total was $3,200.  In addition, the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas provided $5,000 in scholarships, for a grand total of $82,450!

These results will be compiled in an official report that will be distributed to education officials to showcase opportunities provided to students by the credit union industry in the Dakotas. The data will also be a very powerful legislative tool that can be used to illustrate to our elected officials how credit unions are giving back to our communities and to highlight our commitment to youth and education to various media outlets. 

With numbers like these, there is no denying that credit unions in the Dakotas are generously committed to education.
