INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 2, 2013) -- INOVA Federal Credit Union CEO Dallas Bergl has been elected to the board of directors for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). His three-year term as a District 2, Class B director begins in February.
“It is an honor to serve our industry at this level,” he said.
Bergl has worked in the credit union industry for over two decades, and has been CEO of INOVA FCU ($281 million, 28,649 members) for the past 19 years. At the state level, he is on the board of directors of the Indiana Credit Union League, and he also serves on the League’s Governmental Affairs Committee. Additionally, he is on the board of Credit Union Centers, the organization that provides shared branching for Indiana and Illinois. In recognition of his leadership and contributions, he received the League’s Professional Achievement Award in 2008.
Nationally, he also serves on the CUNA World Leadership Development Committee. He is often invited to share his experiences and knowledge at both state and national credit union conferences.
Closer to home, he has worked closely with the U.S. Representatives in Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District for many years. He has also been awarded the Key to the City of Elkhart.
While attending the University of Maryland, he developed a strong interest in international banking and micro finance as a way to empower the world’s poor to lift themselves out of poverty. He had a “front row seat” for world politics while serving in President Reagan’s Presidential Escort during his service with the U.S. Army’s Honor Guard at Fort Myer, Virginia.
“On behalf of Indiana’s credit unions, congratulations to Dallas and we look forward to his leadership on the CUNA board benefiting credit unions in our state and across America,” said Indiana League President John McKenzie. “He is a proven leader in the credit union business, his credentials are impressive and he will be a tremendous asset to the board of our national trade association.”
The Indiana Credit Union League is the statewide trade association for credit unions in Indiana. Those credit unions serve more than 2 million Hoosiers.
