DATCU Credit Union announces implementation of EMV Chip Technology

DENTON, TX (March 25, 2014) -- DATCU Credit Union is proud to announce that in the coming months they will be moving forward with the testing of Europay MasterCard® Visa (EMV) chip technology on all of their debit and credit cards.    This very important technology utilizes a smart chip in conjunction with a magnetic strip and makes it more difficult for fraudulent activity to affect our members.  It brings cardholders very significant security benefits.

The matter is of such vital importance to the credit union, that Melanie Vest, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, recently traveled to Washington D.C. where she met with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, and U.S. Congressman Michael Burgess.    EMV technology has been widely used in other countries, outside of the United States, since the 1990’s.

“The encrypted chip technology helps to prevent counterfeit card fraud which is a very significant issue in the U.S.  We are all painfully aware of the impact that data breaches and other recent card compromises have caused in our nation.  Moving forward with this is an important part of our efforts to protect our members.   We are delighted to be the first community financial institution to implement this very important technology”, stated Dale Kimble, DATCU’s Chief Executive Officer.
