Day Air Credit Union awards two $1,000 scholarships to area students

KETTERING, OH (May 9, 2018) — Day Air Credit Union is excited to announce the two winners of their 2018 Academic Scholarships. This year’s recipients are Paul Wittmann and Emma Flanagan, each will be receiving $1,000 towards their education.

Day Air Credit Union’s scholarship is based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service involvement and an essay on financial literacy. Day Air grants the two $1,000 scholarships annually to students who exhibit excellent service to local communities.

“It is important that Day Air Credit Union recognizes the students who are high achievers not only in the classroom, but in the community as well,” said William Burke, President and CEO. “Paul and Emma stood out among their peers as future leaders of our communities and we look forward to helping them reach their financial and educational goals.”

Paul Wittmann is currently a senior at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. While in high school, Paul has been active in many volunteer opportunities such as Chaminade Julienne’s Alumni Relations Organization, Dayton Food Pantry, and many Eagle Scout projects such as building sheds and fences and making lunches for St. Vincent de Paul. He has also been a scholar athlete all four years of high school participating in Varsity Rowing where he is the team captain. Additionally, Paul has been a part of the National Honor Society since his junior year. He will be attending the Ohio State University in the fall where he will be studying Mechanical Engineering.

Emma Flanagan is currently a sophomore at the Catholic University of America where she is studying marketing. Emma is very active not only in school, but in her community as well. Since 2016, Emma has volunteered at Little Sisters for Peace and Homeless Food Runs. Some of Emma’s school involvement includes Spanish Club, Business Women’s Council, Colleges against Cancer, and many more. While being an active part of her school and community, Emma has also excelled in academics by making the Dean’s List and qualifying in various academic competitions such as The International Business Ethics Case Competition and The Kilner Young Entrepreneur Competition. Emma will be spending her summer studying abroad in China.
