DCECU employees serve community at volunteer-run, low-cost grocery store

MIDLAND, MI (October 15, 2019) — Staff members from Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union recently volunteered their time at a unique Midland grocery store that completely relies on volunteer service for its operations.

On Oct. 8, a crew of 11 DCECU employees volunteered to stock shelves and run the checkouts at The Bridge Food Center , which welcomes individuals from households with an annual income of less than $56,000 per year to shop for groceries priced just above wholesale costs. DCECU employees also volunteered at the store in February, March, April and May and will return in November.

“Our neighbors at The Bridge Food Center provide an important resource for our community,” said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. “It is a privilege for us to give time to this 100% volunteer-driven organization that is dedicated to providing affordable groceries and helping to fight food insecurity locally.”

The Bridge is one of three local organizations to which the credit union has frequently provided volunteers in the last three quarters of 2019. Groups of DCECU employees also have volunteered at The Diaper Alliance on three occasions (with a fourth scheduled for November) and at Midland’s Open Door on three occasions (with two more scheduled for later this month and December).
