DCECU wraps up another year of giving

MIDLAND, MI (December 29, 2015) — ’Tis the season to celebrate giving … and staff members at Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union are marking another successful year of fundraising, having collected nearly $5,700 for charities and community groups during 2015.

In addition to their regularly scheduled one-day Jeans Day for Charity fundraisers throughout the year – which brought in a total of nearly $3,900 in donations – credit union employees also organized their fifth annual “Pink Out” silent auction this fall, which raised nearly $1,800 to support Cancer Services of Midland.

The most recent fundraiser was a Jeans Day for Charity benefiting the Michigan Credit Union League Action Fund (MCULAF), which provides opportunities for individuals to contribute to candidates for state office who support the principles of the credit union industry.

For each Jeans Day for Charity fundraiser, participating credit union employees donate a minimum of $5, which entitles them to wear blue jeans, tennis shoes and logoed attire to work that day. The employees have raised money for various groups, including the Wounded Warrior Project, the Autism Society of Michigan, Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, Senior Services of Midland County, the Humane Society of Midland County, Shelterhouse and more.

Not only do the employees organize regular fundraisers, but they also regularly volunteer their time – from helping with Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build Week and Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative to participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program. In addition, employees help to maintain the boulevard area in front of the credit union between East Lyon and East Patrick roads, from Pine to Washington streets.

“Our employees are the lifeblood of our fundraising and community service efforts,” said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. “They truly are the driving force behind our activities that put thousands of dollars and hundreds of volunteer hours into the community each year, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
