DEI Tuesday – An enlightenment period for credit unions

Historically, the Enlightenment period was a time known not for its battles, but for its powerful ideas bringing forward intellectual and cultural awareness that changed the world. This celebration of reason gave humans an opportunity to think differently and improve their own condition.

That’s exactly what Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, #DEITuesday on March 1, 2022, will be in Washington DC, when credit union powerhouse organizations come together as one to celebrate the beautiful diversity of thought and impact that happens when people dedicated to advancing cultural awareness, truly unite and collaborate to strengthen our common bond, people helping people. “The last two years have been an Enlightenment Period for credit unions as we reconnect with our members to bridge the gaps within society,” commented Renée Sattiewhite, CEO of the African-American Credit Union Coalition. “There is real change happening, it’s as simple as that and you will see it on DEI Tuesday.”

Inclusiv/Juntos Avanzamos, AACUC, the CU DEI Collective, CU Pride, Coopera, Humanidei, Mitchell, Stankovic and Associates, and NLCUP invite you to a series of events focusing on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C. In recent years, awareness of the importance of DEI has grown in the credit union industry. “Every day, credit unions of all sizes are looking inward, adopting the values of DEI and looking for ways to reflect the communities they serve,” stated Pablo DeFilippi, Executive Vice President of Inclusiv and Vice Chair of NLCUP. “At NLCUP, we recognize that partnerships are vital to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the industry and that collaboration is key to transcendental change,” shared Diana Hastings, Executive Director of NLCUP. “To achieve this, it is essential to join forces with organizations to leverage and maximize resources and increase capacity and impact.”

Sometimes progress is slow in coming, but the passion and dedication of volunteers who collectively believe in the mission and cooperative principles make the journey worth taking. The direct impact is paramount for both members and employees alike. “Standing up for the human spirit, shining the light on those in need and championing initiatives that make a real difference is not only the right thing to do, but also good business,” exclaimed Susan Mitchell, CEO of MSA, founder of the Underground and strategic advisor of CU Pride™. “We are proud to join other supporting partners of the DEI Tuesday to further our enlightenment as an industry.”

Register today for DEI Tuesday for a series of events focused on DEI, and how credit unions can expand their work serving and empowering underrepresented communities and promoting equity for all.
