Denetta Monk elected to Unitus Community Credit Union’s Board of Directors

Community leader and advocate brings unique experience to the credit union’s Board

PORTLAND, OR (April 3, 2024)Unitus Community Credit Union announces that Denetta Monk  has been elected to its Board of Directors. Ms. Monk serves as the Associate Vice President of  Programs for Urban League of Portland. With more than 15 years’ experience, Ms. Monk has a  history of building a culture of equity and inclusion for students, families, employees, and  community members. 

In her role at Urban League of Portland, Ms. Monk oversees contracts, grants,  and agency programs inclusive of Housing, Workforce Development, Empowerment, and Health and Senior Services. She’s held several roles during  her nearly eight years at Urban League, including Director of Housing Programs  and Housing Program Manager. In 2023, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek  appointed Ms. Monk to the state’s Racial Justice Council Housing and  Homelessness Committee.

Her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout her  career brings an important lens to our decision-making responsibilities.” 

“As a member, I see first-hand how the credit union works to provide inclusive financial services in  our communities,” explained Ms. Monk. “In my professional role, I’ve worked closely with Unitus to  pilot the Azie app with Urban League clients. I share the Unitus value of lifting and empowering  historically underserved communities to help them with their financial journeys.” 

Ms. Monk has led racial justice advocacy and initiatives to increase diversity in funds that support  communities of color. She is a certified social worker and community health worker. Ms. Monk has  held a previous board position with Bradley Angle, a nonprofit that supports victims of domestic  violence. She is currently an executive board member at Parenting with Intent, a nonprofit  committed to building strong connections for healthy communities.

Ms. Monk will serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors.
