Discovery FCU announced today that after a comprehensive nationwide search, it’s long-time Vice-President/Chief Information Officer Michele Smith will succeed retiring CEO Edwin Williams effective October 1, 2022.
The Board recognizes the visionary leadership of outgoing CEO Ed Williams who has grown the credit union to over $180 million in assets with over 8,500 members during his 26-year tenure. “Ed’s vision and leadership have paved the way for Discovery FCU to continue to provide industry-leading service to its member/owners. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement and look forward to Michele taking the helm and continuing to enhance services to our member/owners. Having worked very closely with Michele for 22 years and watching her thrive and grow into a nationally recognized leader, I am supremely confident that Michele is the perfect fit for the CEO role, and she will continue to strengthen and grow Discovery," says Bob Shaner, Board President. Smith, current Vice-President/Chief Information Officer, and Reading PA native, brings her 22-years of service and experience with Discovery FCU to her new position. Michele has been instrumental in leading the organization through the pandemic, countless strategic initiatives, product and service enhancements and the recent renovation of the branch. She is a passionate advocate for the credit union movement and philosophy of people helping people. “I am thrilled that Michele has been selected as the next President/CEO of Discovery FCU and that her commitment over her 22 years as a member of the management team of Discovery FCU was recognized by the Board of Directors. I can retire knowing that Discovery FCU is in great hands with Michele as my successor. I am excited to see her continue to use her talents to further enhance services to our member/owners,” says Williams.
“It is my honor to take the next step in serving Discovery FCU as President/CEO and lead the credit union into the future. I have many people to thank for this opportunity. Ed Williams, for his many years of support, guidance, and space to grow. His mentorship has been invaluable in preparing me for this role. Our exceptionally talented and service-minded team that bring their very best to work every day to make a positive impact on the lives of our member/owners. The board of directors for entrusting me to continue building on the great foundation that we have built. The future is bright at Discovery FCU,” Michele says.
