Dort Federal Credit Union donates record $23,178.50 through snowman fundraiser and participates in United Way service project

GRAND BLANC, MI (January 23, 2019) — Dort Federal Credit Union is excited to announce the results of their 2018 Annual Snowman Sales fundraiser benefiting local charities.  The 2018 beneficiaries, selected by Dort Federal Credit Union employees, will split the proceeds totaling $23,178.50.  On January 21, 2019 Dort Federal Credit Union presented The Old Newsboys of Flint and Ele’s Place with checks in the amount of $11,589.25 for each organization.

Dort Federal Credit Union has contributed to charitable organizations through their Annual Snowman Sales campaign with donations received from members during the holiday season for over 20 years. Dort Federal’s employees and Board of Directors also contributed more than $4,810 to the campaign.

“It’s incredibly important for us to have support from individuals and organizations like Dort Federal, because all of our programming is provided completely free of charge to the children and families that we serve,” said Ele’s Place Managing Director Amy Krug.

In continuing Dort Federal’s commitment to our communities, our employees also participated in the United Way of Genesee and Shiawassee Counties’ service project. Employees assembled children’s emergency comfort kits containing a hand-made blanket, a stuffed animal, activity books, and a dental care kit. The kits will be given to local children during emergency situations by first responders.

“Last year we teamed up with the United Way to work on the Service in a Box Project and we had great results so we participated in the program again this year,” said Deana Turcott, Director of Human Resources. “We’re implementing the credit union ideal of ‘people helping people’, which is an important aspect to us.”

More about the 2018 Snowman Sale Beneficiaries:

Ele’s Place – a nonprofit, community based organization dedicated to creating awareness of and support for grieving children and their families. Through peer support group programs, Ele’s Place helps children to cope with the death of a parent, sibling or someone else close to them.

Old Newsboys of Flint –  “Let No Child Be Forgotten” is the goal of the Old Newsboys, Inc. To live up to this motto, we have established basic concepts that include: No toys or clothing will be distributed that members would not give their own children. Any child from a family that meets Old Newsboys’ guidelines will not be denied help. No needy child will be denied services regardless of the reason for difficulty, race, or religion.
